Important Updates on Paramount Global Channels

TV Programming Changes

Starting September 30, 2024, we will no longer carry the Paramount Global suite of channels on our TV service due to the rate demands associated with their content.

Please know that this decision was not made lightly and we sincerely apologize for the frustration this may cause you and your family.

Despite a tough negotiation, Paramount Global demanded rates that do not reflect the value their content delivers to you. They have also been shifting the majority of their new shows to their Paramount Plus app, which we believe is unfair to the cable consumers like you, our valued customers.

We remain committed to keeping your monthly TV bill as low as possible, while keeping up with the increasing demands from programmers.

Mahalo for being a loyal Hawaiian Telcom customer and for your understanding as we make these programming changes.

This update will impact the following channels:

BET

MTV

Nickelodeon

TV Land

Comedy Central

Nick Jr

Paramount

How do I get the Paramount+ App?

Follow these steps to get the Paramount+ app on your TV:

1. Check Your TV Compatibility
First, ensure that your TV or streaming device is compatible with the Paramount+ app. The app is available on most Smart TVs, Streaming Devices, Gaming Consoles, and Fioptics+ Set Top Box. If your TV is not compatible, you can still watch Paramount+ by using an external device like a Roku, Fire Stick, Apple TV, or by casting from your phone.

2. Download the Paramount+ App

  • Once installed, log in with your Paramount+ account credentials.

  • Turn on your TV and ensure it's connected to the internet.
  • Go to the App Store or Channel Store on your TV’s home screen.
  • Use the search feature to type "Paramount+".
  • Select the Paramount+ app from the results.
  • Choose Install or Download to add the app to your TV.

Why can't I watch Paramount Global content through the to Paramount+ App?

Unlike other content providers such as HBO Max who give customers access to content on TV and within their app, Paramount Global forces customers to purchase both to view all of their shows and movies. Hawaiian Telcom is strongly discouraged by their lack of flexibility in giving customers the content that they want, when and where they want.

What happens to my recordings from any of the Paramount Global channels?

All recordings on Paramount Global channels will be deleted as we no longer have rights to access the shows and movies. Any future scheduled recordings will also not be available.

Will I still have access to the Video on Demand library for Paramount Global channels?

Access to the Video On Demand will also be removed as we no longer have rights to their shows and movies.

Why won’t you just pay what they are asking?

Despite the decrease in value and the availability of Paramount shows on numerous free and low-cost platforms, they still insist on charging significant fees.  As a local business, we can thrive only when we deliver the best possible value for you from all our services. With all the channels we offer our customers, imagine the impact on your monthly bill if we agreed to pay every network whatever price they demanded.

I pay a lot for my TV service. Can’t you use that money to pay for this increase or lower my bill?

Rising programming costs, including Paramount, affect ALL video providers and increase your bill every year. We absorb as much of these increases as possible but are not able to cover all of them. We strive to continue to provide value, which means in some cases we need to remove those networks that no longer are worth what they demand.

Will my bill be lowered after losing Paramount Global channels?

Historically, Hawaiian Telcom has absorbed many of these content costs instead of passing them on to customers. However, this is no longer sustainable as a TV provider.
